Nintendo makes fun of the Wii U in Animal Crossing: New Leaf update

The Wii U is a fine console with a lot of fun games. Its underperformance isn’t really a shock considering the atmosphere it was released in, but it looks like even Nintendo can have a bit of a sense of humor about it.

In the latest update for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the company drops a fun little joke at the expense of its aging console.

“Great artists aren’t always appreciated in their time.”

Indeed, keep on rocking into the history books Wii U! You might not have sold that many copies, but with the likes of Wind Waker HD, Super Smash Bros., Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Splatoon, and Xenoblade Chronicles X, Nintendo fans will look back fondly for years to come, just like the GameCube.

Dare I say? It didn’t have the same impact, but Nintendo and its limited number of third-party developers made better games for the Wii U than it did for the Wii. The Wii was appreciated in its time too.
