Pokémon GO data dig reveals code for Gen 2 Pokémon

Chikorita? Cyndaquil? Totodile? Are you guys actually there? The second generation of Pokémon might be on their way to Pokémon GO.

The word comes as the folks at The Silph Road posted their most recent data mining discoveries. They found that “100 new Pokémon are now referenced in the game’s code.”

  • Pokedex #152 (Chikorita) to #251 (Celebi)
  • Moveset data has not appeared for the 100 new species, and a client-side update (e.g. v0.45.1) will be required for them to begin appearing in-game

These data mining info dumps have been pretty accurate in the past. The site offers that the fact that movesets are not in the code for these new Pokémon means that this update could be weeks or months away.

Pokémon GO could use Gen 2 Pokémon

Things are getting better for Niantic, no doubt about it. Pokémon GO still isn’t the game it has the potential to be, but it’s a stronger offering than what we had at launch this past summer.

A new influx of Pokémon would do wonders to get trainers back out in the wild, myself included. If and when this update comes, I’ll be back in the fold for sure.
