Enthralling, Capcom… Just kidding, of course.
The newest trailers from Resident Evil 7 include one that shows how players will interact with objects. Pick them up, rotate them, find the lock or button to open it. It’s a mechanic from some of the older Resident Evil games, but I’m more reminded of Capcom’s other franchise, Phoenix Wright, when I see a spinning, interactive object.
And I have no objections to Phoenix Wright inspiring Resident Evil. None whatsoever!
Resident Evil 7 also lets you play with shadows
The other trailer shows off a mechanic that popped up in the most recent demo. Players will sometimes have to use a 3D object to cast a 2D shadow onto an outline to solve a puzzle. Rotating certain objects will create many shapes, meaning you’ll have to position them just properly to cast the shape you’re looking for.
Resident Evil 7 launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Jan. 24, 2017.
