Looks like you’re going to have to wait for those AirPods a little longer. Apple’s first wireless earbuds were originally scheduled to go on sale in October, but after an initial delay, it looks like you won’t get your hands on the AirPods until after New Year’s.
According to Economic Daily News, Apple’s AirPods will be delayed until January 2017 at the earliest—three months after they were originally supposed to be available. More importantly, the delay will cause the earbuds to miss the lucrative holiday season altogether.
The missed target will be a bummer for Apple, which was hoping to cash in on the iPhone 7’s missing headphone jack.
Missed opportunity for Apple
It’s up for debate whether the headphone jack needed to be removed from the newest iPhone, but what is quite obvious is that Apple—which owns the top selling brand of wireless headphones in Beats—was hoping that the push toward wireless would incentivize its customers to buy a pair of Beats or AirPods.
With the AirPods not being sold during the holidays, at least according to this rumor, many iPhone 7 users may have to turn to other wireless headphone makers like Bose or Jaybird to fill their needs.
