UK retailer GAME wants you to pay to try PlayStation VR

Who ever heard of try before you buy? Buy before you try is the new hotness! Kotaku noticed over the weekend that UK video game shop GAME sees the PlayStation VR and its demo-deserving nature as a potential boon, and it is asking gamers to drop a few pounds (the British kind) to check the hardware out.

If you end up so enamored with the system that you walk out with one in hand or on order, GAME is refunding the cost. One shop is asking for £5 for 10 minutes or £15 for half an hour. That’s about $6 and $18, respectively.

This is a cynical move for a game retailer

GAME seems to be banking on the curiosity caused by VR and the hope that PlayStation can make it go mainstream, but this is cynical even for a retailer. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sony condemn the practice or to find out that it’s against some sort of contract between Sony and GAME.

While I could definitely see internet cafes eventually becoming VR arcades of sorts and charging by the hour to play games, this isn’t the way to go about it.
