I never thought I’d write this: Team Ico’s PlayStation-exclusive title The Last Guardian has gone gold. In other words, it’s done or, in this modern world, done enough to put on a disc and sell.
The Last Guardian was announced in 2007 and was eagerly awaited by fans of the developer’s previous titles, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Since then, the game has been delayed more than a few times. For years, the team was dead silent about the game, and it was presumed canceled. Fans kept asking people like Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, though, and it seems that was enough to keep the dream alive.
Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida must be relieved.
After nine years, Yoshida was able to tweet the following:
I've waited a very long time to say this… The Last Guardian has gone gold! I'm so excited for you all to finally experience it ˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖
— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) October 22, 2016
The assumption that The Last Guardian was canceled was only fueled by moments like director Fumito Ueda quitting Sony and the lapsing of the game’s trademark. Now, though, it seems the game is not only going see the light of day, it’s actually going to make it out in 2016.
The Last Guardian is set to hit PlayStation 4 on December 6.
