Sony A6500, Cyber-shot RX100V unveiled

by Jacob Kleinman | October 6, 2016

Sony just announced the A6300 earlier this year, but the company is already back with an even better interchangeable lens mirrorless camera. The Japanese giant unveiled its latest mirrorless A6500 and the new compact Cyber-shot RX100 V at an event on Thursday.

The A6500 shares a lot of features with the previous model, including the same 24.2-megapixel sensor, super-fast focus, 425 autofocus points and 4K video recording. However, the new camera adds an LCD touchscreen, making it possible to control the focus by tapping the display, and a new 5-axis image stabilization system.

Sony claims that the new Cyber-shot RX100 V boasts the fastest auto-focus and most auto-focus points for any current compact camera that can fit in your pocket. It also boasts the fastest continuous shooting speed for its class, a 20.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, a pop-up OLED viewfinder display, Wi-Fi and NFC. Sony also designed a special water-resistant housing for shooting at up to 130 feet underwater.

The A6300 launches next month for “about $1,400.” The Cyber-shot RX100 V will be available this month for “about $1,000,” and its underwater housing is set to arrive in November for an additional $350.
