Surface Pro 3 owners have been hit by yet another battery charging issue less than a month after Microsoft rolled out a firmware update to address the last one. This latest glitch prevents certain batteries from charging while the Surface Pro 3 is plugged into the mains.
The last battery issue affected Simplo batteries in the Surface Pro 3, and meant the machine inaccurately reported the battery capacity. As a result, some users found they could barely get an hour of use out of their tablet in between charges.
The latest issue affects LG batteries, and prevents them from charging. When the Surface Pro 3 is plugged into the mains, a “not charging” error appears and the internal battery just doesn’t pull any power. This means that without mains power, the Surface Pro 3 won’t work.
The good news is that Microsoft is “aware” of this problem, according to one community moderator on the Answers.com forum, where many Surface Pro 3 owners are complaining about this issue. The bad news is that there’s no word on when a fix will be available.
Despite glowing reviews, the Surface Pro lineup has been plagued by all manor of issues due to both software and hardware glitches. We’ve seen the device freezing under certain Windows 10 builds, a recall for faulty power cables, and more.
