Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition gets a retro infomercial straight from the 90s

Any child of the early 90s is going to love this Sonic Mania trailer from SEGA. The company clearly knows who it is selling this 16-bit throwback to, and it nails everything that made early 90s commercials so awkwardly awesome.

Filmed to look like an old-school analog video camera dealing with tracking issues, the trailer itself is the closest any company has come to recreating the feel of watching cable TV through a CRTV. As for the content itself, it’s passable because the real treat is the game, which employs pixel graphics and takes the franchise back to when it was at the peak of its quality and popularity.

And did my ears deceive me, or did the announcer actually use the words “world wide web?” Ouch! That hits me right in the nostalgia bone.

Sonic Mania is due for release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017. Nothing is confirmed yet, but you can bet your Power Gems it will be released on the NX as well.
