Google finally got around to releasing Android Nougat for the Nexus 6P last week, but if you’re holding onto an older Nexus device you could be stuck waiting even longer. Specifically, it looks like the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE are still weeks away from getting the update.
Android Police reached out to Google and got a vague promise that the new operating system would hit those gadgets “in the coming weeks.” It’s unclear exactly what’s taking so long, though it’s possible the company could be fixing some issues with the software first. At least we know Nougat will eventually come to the older Nexus smartphone and tablet.
Android Nougat is a pretty big update, introducing new multi-tasking features that should be particularly useful on the Nexus 9 LTE tablet. It adds 72 new emoji and better battery saving with an upgraded version of Doze. Google also improved how notifications work, making it easy to respond without opening the app and bundling together multiple messages from the same service.
If you don’t feel like waiting, you can try signing up for the Android N Developer Preview, though Android Police notes that Google may have stopped taking registrations at this point.
