It’s not enough to compare the frame rates of games between multiple platforms. No. Now we get to compare the frame rates of games between multiple SKUs in the same platform family. Welcome to the future of video games.
Mass Effect: Andromeda made a bit of a debut yesterday during Sony’s PlayStation meeting. The title was running on the new PlayStation 4 Pro, a system that will tout 4K gaming in HDR with “smoother frame rates.” That bit’s from Sony. I assume they mean that frame rates will stutter and dip less on the PS4 Pro. Maybe they’ll be higher, but that might not always be the case.
Take Mass Effect: Andromeda. On the PlayStation 4, it’s running at 30fps. On the PlayStation 4 Pro? It’s running at 30fps. The word comes from BioWare Producer Fabrice Condominas during a chat with Gamespot.
Even further, Jason Connell of Sucker Punch Productions told Gamespot that Infamous: Second Son and the First Light expansion will run at the same frame rate on the PlayStation 4 Pro as they did on the regular PS4.
More stats to chew on as you mull your potential purchase of Sony’s new gaming hardware.
