Sony has a big show in just a few minutes to tell us what we already know – there are two new PlayStation 4 systems coming. With that said, there’s a lot we don’t know about them that we’re looking forward to hearing. The stream begins at 3pm ET, and we’ll have news during and after the event.
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House has acknowledged in interviews that the PlayStation 4 Neo exists, though he didn’t put a name or any other concrete information to it. We don’t have confirmation on just how much more powerful the PlayStation 4 Neo or, whatever we’re about to find out it’s called, will be, what it’ll cost, or even when it’ll come out.
Then there’s the PlayStation 4 Slim. A unit grew legs and jumped off a truck in England a couple weeks ago, and after a short round of everyone assuming it was fake, we had confirmation from sources like Eurogamer‘s DigitalFoundry verifying the existence of the system. Meanwhile, Sony kept its fingers in its metaphorical ears, singing loudly and occasionally asking “PlayStation, what’s a PlayStation?” as if that would somehow erase the leak. As with the Neo, we know it exists, but we don’t know what it’ll cost or exactly when it’ll be out. With that said, Sony’s already manufacturing the things, so a September release seems all but inevitable.
In just minutes, though, we should have answers to the many questions that have been swirling around. How will backwards and forwards compatibility work? With the system output to 4K like the Xbox Scorpio is intended to? Will the system debut alongside the PlayStation VR? Watch with us and find out!
