Android Nougat update available now, Google releases factory images

Google is rolling out Android Nougat as an over-the-air update for a handful of devices over the next couple of weeks, but if you don’t feel like waiting there’s a way to jumpstart the process. Factory images are available now if you’re willing to do a little extra work to get Nougat running.

Google has officially released factory images for the Pixel C, Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi version) and the Nexus Player. You can grab them straight from the search giant via the source link below. Droid-Life notes that the company seems to be releasing the factory images in batches based on mobile processor type, so hopefully we’ll see an update for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Nexus 6 pretty soon.

If you really really don’t feel like waiting, Android Police is also rounding up some unofficial factory images. The site already has the necessary files for the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, along with the Pixel C and Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi version). The rest are all listed as “coming soon.”

The easiest way to get Android Nougat running on your Nexus device is still to simply wait for the over-the-air update; but, if you know what you’re doing, flashing the factory images is a nice way to speed up the process. Google’s also giving top priority to any devices that were enrolled in the Android developer preview, so if you helped test out Nougat earlier this year, you may have an update waiting for you already.
