PlayStation 4 Neo official reveal coming in September, sources say

by Eric Frederiksen | August 8, 2016

Sony hasn’t exactly hidden the existence of an upcoming refresh of their PlayStation 4 hardware. They’ve actually confirmed it, but they haven’t yet officially revealed it.

That’s all set to change next month, according to multiple sources.

French gaming site Gameblog reported today that Sony will reveal details on the system on September 7 at an event in New York. VICE Gaming writes that their writers have heard the same from multiple sources.

The new PlayStation 4 will contain upgraded CPU, GPU and more RAM to make an overall substantially more powerful system. Rather than replacing the PlayStation 4 outright, the system will sit alongside the original PlayStation 4 on shelves. When confirming the system’s existence back in June, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House said that “all games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4.”

As for the show itself, VICE Gaming writes that the show is being described as “technical showcase” but that even Sony doesn’t have final details yet on what will be shown.

We’re eager to hear more about the system and how it’ll set itself apart from the PlayStation 4.
