15 million players – of which our own Joey Davidson and I are two – are playing Overwatch, Activision Blizzard has announced. The game pulled in 7 million players in its first week, after a wildly successful beta that had almost 10 million.
Since its release at the end of May, those 15 million players have logged 500 million hours, an average of 50 million hours logged per week since release.
Overwatch currently has a promotion going that lets players win “Summer Games” skins through gameplay, and the first new hero, Ana, came out just a few weeks ago. All of this has led to a huge quarter for Activision Blizzard. The company experienced a 255 percent increase in revenue year over year.
While some Overwatch players are pouring hours into the game, others are searching high and low for the rumored next hero, Sombra.
