3 glorious 16-bit Disney games hit GOG – Aladdin, Lion King and Jungle Book

GOG has announced the retro revival of three classic 16-bit platformers from the early 90s. Disney AladdinDisney The Lion King and Disney The Jungle Book are all up for sale for the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. They’ll cost $9.99 a pop, but you can snag each for $8.99 right now. If you buy all three, they’ll only cost $19.99.

I don’t know if you knew this, but Disney Aladdin for Sega and SNES were two totally different games. Back when the title released in the early 90s, Nintendo couldn’t bring itself to allow relatively intense violence on its platform. That meant no blood in games like Mortal Kombat. For Aladdin? The SNES version skipped the sword.

The version on GOG is the Sega one.

16-bit Disney Games

These three games are fantastic. They represent an era when Disney published incredibly challenging and well made platformers, and I’d offer that The Lion King is one of the toughest games from the SNES era. That dang stampede level used to haunt my dreams.
