Chrome 52 on Android sucks less battery, loads faster

Google announced the rollout of Chrome 52 for Android on Wednesday, noting that the latest mobile browser “feels smoother, loads faster, and consumes less battery.”

What more could you ask for?

Users should specifically notice improvements to video playback on websites, which is important given the frequency with which video is used to complement text in news articles, on blogs and in other places.

“Videos will now start playing sooner, instead of pausing briefly before loading, and your battery will last longer, “Google promised.

There’s also a function called “Data Saver Mode” that lets you opt for “lightweight versions” of video. It’ll consume less data, almost certainly at the cost of quality, which will help you stay under your carrier’s monthly data cap.

Chrome 52 for Android is available now, so you should see the update in Google Play.
