Galaxy Note 7 vs. Galaxy Note 5 spec shootout – Worth the upgrade?

by Jacob Kleinman | August 2, 2016August 2, 2016 10:00 am PST

Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy Note 7, skipping the Galaxy Note 6 name altogether. But does that mean the Note 7 is a two-generation upgrade over last year’s Galaxy Note 5? Let’s find out.

The Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Note 5 both feature a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, but only the Note 7 offers a curved edge design. Both devices also pack in 4GB of RAM, but the Note 5 starts 32GB of storage while the Note 7 doubles that to 64GB with a microSD slot for adding extra space. That Note 7 also adds a bigger 3500mAh battery (up from 3000mAh) and boasts IP68 water-resistance too.

That being said, the Galaxy Note 5 is still an excellent phone and a full year in it’s still going strong. But if you’re looking for a new device and picking between the two you may want to treat yourself and go for the Galaxy Note 7.
