This week’s box office results held a few surprises, but not all of them were good.
1. Jason Bourne
Jason Bourne is the latest entry in the spy thriller series, and it kicked things off at the top of the box office with $60M off of its $120M budget.
2. Star Trek Beyond
Star Trek Beyond may have come in second for the weekend with $24M, but it also suffered the biggest drop off for a second weekend of the rebooted series. The third film in the series dropped 59.5 percent in its second weekend and is running $28M behind Star Trek Into Darkness at the same point in its theatrical run. Globally it stands at $160.52M off of its $185M budget.
3. Bad Moms
Bad Moms opened in third with $23.4M off of a $20M budget. Not a bad start at all for the comedy.
4. The Secret Life of Pets
The Secret Life of Pets landed in fourth place this weekend with $18.213M for a new domestic total of $296.17M off of a $75M budget. Globally it stands at $395.17M.
5. Lights Out
New horror film Lights Out landed in fifth place in its second weekend with $10.81M for a new total of $42.87M off of a $4.9M budget. To no one’s surprise, a sequel has already been announced.
