One of the worst things about the new Apple TV is its Siri remote, which has a touchpad that’s awkward to use, especially when entering text. That’s what makes today’s release particularly welcome.

After introducing a beta of the application following its WWDC event in June, Apple has officially released a new Apple TV remote application for select iOS devices. In particular, today’s release will make entering passwords much easier.

Here is the official App Store description:

Apple TV Remote is a great companion to Apple TV, delivering the best of the Siri Remote. With Apple TV Remote, you’ll never need to put down your iPhone to enjoy Apple TV. Control Apple TV with a swipe of your finger or use the keyboard to quickly enter text. And you can use the app along with the Siri Remote.

  • Navigate Apple TV with touch gestures

  • Quickly enter text, email addresses, and passwords using the keyboard

  • Ask Siri to find something great to watch, listen to, or play

  • Control the movie, TV show, or song that’s currently playing

  • Play games using the accelerometer and gyroscope

  • Turn on Game Mode for simplified game controls

According to the App Store description, the application supports iOS devices using iOS 9.3.2 or later, and works with the second generation, third generation, and fourth generation Apple TV. However, Siri will only work with the fourth generation Apple TV. You can download the app now.
