The Yooka-Laylee “Toybox” demo intended only for backers is now out in the wild, and so far, reception has been universally positive. Outlets are calling it a return to form for Rare’s classic design style, and all we’ve seen so far is the pre-alpha build!
The demo itself offers no actual levels or plot from the final game, but rather, just a fun sandbox to bound around in. Of course, there are collectibles, Easter Eggs, and plenty of other stunts and tricks to pull off for those willing to dig. Backers can rest easy knowing they have a piece of a product that a good many others will never get to see.
It might look barren, but developer Playtonic warns that this demo shows “only a small sample of the finished production — and [is] visually incomparable.”
Sigh. The rest of us will just have to wait for the final game to be released. That is scheduled to happen in early 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, Mac, Linux, and PC.
