Xiaomi VR headset teased for Aug. 1 unveiling

Xiaomi just unveiled its first laptop and a new smartphone earlier this week, but the company isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The Chinese startup is already teasing another big product announcement for August 1.

The company recently shared a pair of teasers on online for the new Xiaomi VR headset. The first confirms the August 1 unveiling and notes that something new is on the way. A second image published on Weibo (and spotted by GizmoChina) promotes the upcoming product with words like “energetic,” “enjoy life” and “best experience” (at least according to Google Translate).

It’s still unclear what form Xiaomi VR will take. It could be a standalone headset with a built-in display and sensors meant to compete with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Then again, it might be a more basic phone-based model that’s designed to work with the company’s MiUI Android skin. Either way, it should be great news for Xiaomi fans, especially if the firm can deliver the same low prices we’ve come to expect.
