Oops – Steam game delayed because the publisher didn’t hit the go button

This is the Police, an upcoming law enforcement strategy game, was intended to release on July 28, but had to be rescheduled last minute to August 2. It wasn’t last minute bug fixes or the developer needing more time. Nope. The publisher forgot to click the approval button.

Jan Binsmaier, director of publisher EuroVision Medien, explained in a post to the Steam forums:

When releasing a game on Steam, you have to hit a button in Steamworks saying “ready for final approval from Steam.” Steam then proceeds to check the game, and makes sure it complies with their quality standards. Usually this approval process takes 2-5 business days, and you can not release the game without passing it.

We were responsible to hit that button and unfortunately we missed this window, as we realized it yesterday, i.e. too late for a July 28 release. We made a mistake and feel very sorry about it. [Developer] Weappy has nothing to do with this – it was just a personal mistake on our side.

Again: We are really sorry about that.

But hey, now everybody’s talking about This is the Police, so maybe not pressing the button was the right thing to do. This is the Police hits Steam and other online stores on August 2. While you wait, enjoy our gallery of people pressing buttons on various things. Unlike EuroVision Medien, none of the people in this gallery forgot to press their buttons.
