Yo-kai Watch announced for an Android and iOS release

During its live-stream event earlier today, Level-5 announced plans to port the Yo-kai Watch series to Android and iOS. The original game, the same that came out for the Nintendo 3DS last year in North America, will be released for smartphones in Japan this coming fall.

The series is still popular in Japan for the time being, but it’s getting stomped all over by Pokémon GO. Level-5 needs to think of something, and it needs to think fast. Luckily, the company announced this initiative and many more to focus on the smartphone platform, claiming that it is where a majority of children play their videos games these days in Japan.

I’m not sure if the company will make stab at the North American smartphone market though, especially nowadays after so many people suddenly remembered how much they love Pokémon. It’s a long shot, but I think Level-5 would rather see the Nintendo 3DS sequel become a hit first.
