Google is making some changes to its Play Store app categories to make it easier for Android users to discover new titles. As of today, eight new categories are available, while two existing ones have received new names.
By adding additional categories, Google gives developers more options for sorting their apps. It also gives developers a greater chance of being top of their category. For users, this makes it easier to find titles that fall into a specific genre or meet a specific need.
Here are the eight new categories that have been added today:
- Art & Design
- Auto & Vehicles
- Food & Drink
- House & Home
It’s interesting that Dating apps are popular enough to get their own category now, while new moms and dads will be glad to see a Parenting category. It’s also good to see a new category for Auto & Vehicle apps, which would have fallen into areas like Transportation before.
The two categories that have been renamed are Transportation and Media & Video, which have become Maps & Navigation and Video Players & Editors.
Although Google is adding these categories today, it could take up to 60 days for all users to see them in the Play Store, the company says. If you’re a developer and want to switch categories for your app, follow the source link below for more information.
