Nintendo wants Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma to make a new IP

Eiji Aonuma is currently the lead producer and mastermind behind all things Zelda, including the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo wants him doing more, though.

Speaking with EDGE, as transcribed by Gamespresso, Aonuma indicated that Nintendo wants him making a new IP in addition to his work with Zelda.

“Actually, Nintendo has been telling me to create a new IP. But then, they’re also telling me to make more Zelda games.”

IP, for those who may be out of the loop, stands for intellectual property. A new IP implies a completely new game, brand, set of characters, locale and experience. It’s the difference between, say, Mario and Zelda. Those two franchises are unique IP.

Got it? When pressed on the issue later in the interview, Aonuma said that he likes “the idea of a game where I can live as a thief. That’s all I’ll say.” Here’s that full bit.

“I can’t really share much; I’m not sure I’m allowed to say anything. But I really like the idea of a game where I can live as a thief. That’s all I’ll say.”

A game we’re players live as a thief? Persona 5? What would you like to see Aonuma develop?
