Final Fantasy Tactics hack replaces all humans with monsters

I just wrapped up a wonderful, nostalgia-laced playthrough of this all-time classic favorite, and I spent a chunk of time thinking of ways on how to shake things up. I mean, I’ve played Final Fantasy Tactics more times than I can count on two hands, and you can only make a supreme monk and cut through troops like butter with Orlandu so many times before running out of steam.

Well, that’s not true in the least, but hear me out.

Enter “Monster Tactics,” a ROM hack that replaces all human characters with monsters! Aside from Ramza, important story NPCs, and “guest” characters, players are unable to use humans in any way, and they must recruit troops through random battles with the Invite ability. Of course, this cuts down severely on the customization and the job class that Final Fantasy Tactics is so revered for, but at least it’s something different.

Now, this could have been any old mod, but the developers also went out of their way to have the story reflect the changes. Humans in Ivalice are dying, and the monsters have begun their reign of the Earth. It’s a bit silly with a lot of jokes, but I would love to see how the actual new plot plays out.

Check out to play the full game. Be sure to buy a genuine copy of Final Fantasy Tactics if you do. Not only will you be able to enjoy this fun hack guilt-free, but you’ll also own one of the finest strategy RPGs ever made.
