Samsung Pay is one of the advertised features of the Gear S2, a smartwatch that Samsung launched last year, but, oddly enough, it still doesn’t support the function. That’s beginning to change thanks to a new software update that enables Samsung Pay on the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic.
Droid-Life noticed Samsung began rolling out an update earlier this week. The software is still in beta form, which means it’s probably a little buggy and may have other performance issues. Also, it’s reportedly limited to the Bluetooth-only version of the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic, which means folks with the 3G/4G version are still out in the cold. The beta is currently running in the United States.
If you own a Gear S2 or Gear S2 Classic, check inside the Samsung Gear application for the option to enable the Samsung Pay Beta. Set up your cards, and, when you’re shopping, you should be able to make a purchase by holding your smartwatch up near an NFC reader.
No word yet on when Samsung plans to roll out a final version, but we hope it’s soon. The Gear S2 launched last October, and rumor has it Samsung is gearing up to launch a new one soon.
