NVIDIA’s “VR Funhouse” for HTC Vive looks insanely awesome

NVIDIA just released its first video game ever, and it looks incredible. The California chipmaker’s new title, VR Funhouse, is available now for the HTC Vive.

The game drops you in the middle of a classic carnival full of interactive minigames. There’s familiar options like throwing a ball at small targets and a whack-a-mole inspired setup. You can also shoot green goo into a clown head to fill a balloon, aim flaming arrows at moving targets, pop balloons with a pair of swords and more.

It looks absolutely amazing, and we can’t wait to try it for ourselves. The carnival’s slightly spooky vibe also gives the entire game an extra edge that we really like.

You can grab VR Funhouse for free from Steam, but you’ll need a high-end PC to power the experience. Here’s what NVIDIA recommends:

Low Quality

  • GPU: GeForce GTX 980 Ti, TITAN X, 1060 or 1070
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4790

Medium Quality

  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1080
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-5930

High Quality

  • GPU: A single Geforce GTX 1080, or a 2-Way GeForce GTX 1070, TITAN X or 980 Ti SLI setup
  • GPU PhysX: Also requires a GeForce GTX 980 Ti, or greater, to be dedicated as a PhysX GPU in the NVIDIA Control Panel
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-5930

Later this summer, the game will also be open sourced, giving other developers a look at how NVIDIA made it. Then they can use those same techniques to create their own virtual reality games or improve VR Funhouse with new minigames and mods, making what already looks like an amazing experience even better.
