Stephen King, Steven Spielberg, and supernatural mysteries of the 80s. These are the things Netflix’s Stranger Things takes inspiration from, and you can watch eight minutes from the first episode right now on YouTube. Don’t miss this one.

Early reviews for Stranger Things have been largely positive, with praise for the show’s throwback style and mysterious plot. It apparently heaps on the nostalgia without forgetting to forge its own identity.

Netflix has been on a tear lately with original shows such as Voltron, Love, and the return of Orange is the New Black. Now, it looks like Stranger Things will help tide subscribers over until this fall, which is when Luke Cage is set to debut.

Here’s is the official synopsis of Stranger Things, per Netflix:

A love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80’s, Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

If you still can’t decide whether or not to check the show out, give the video above a shot. The show hits Netflix today, July 15.
