Microsoft won’t host a press conference at Gamescom this year

There are three big shows in the world of games where people expect announcements and surprises: E3, Tokyo Game Show, and Gamescom. The latter of the three is going to be a bit different this year, though, as Microsoft won’t be hosting a press conference at the event.

Aaron Greenberg, Xbox’s marketing boss, took to the Xbox news blog to discuss the company’s presence at the show this year.

Fans will be able to get their hands on games like Gears of War 4Forza Horizon 3, ReCoreHalo Wars 2, and other titles, and the company will be hosting a FanFest event during the show. The company will not, he said, be hosting a media briefing as part of all that.

While Greenberg doesn’t hint at anything, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few announcements come out during the show. They just won’t be backed into a Phil Spencer-centric hour long show.

Gamescom, located in Cologne, Germany, goes from Wednesday, August 17 to Sunday, August 21 this year.
