Amazon Prime Day was the company’s biggest day ever

Your hard-earned dollars propelled Amazon’s second annual Prime Day into hallowed ground. The online company this week revealed the day of sales was its biggest ever. And it wasn’t just by a little—compared to Prime Day 2015, Amazon says orders jumped 60 percent worldwide.

Of course, Amazon came out best with its own devices selling like gangbusters; Amazon said Prime Day 2016 was the best day ever for gadgets such as the Fire TV, Fire tablets, and Alexa-enabled devices. Devices such as the $50 Fire tablet was discounted to a mere $33 thanks to the sales, so you can see why they did so well. Other devices, such as TVs, mobile phones, and more were also heavily discounted.

“Prime itself is the best deal in the history of shopping, and Prime Day was created as a special benefit exclusively for our Prime members,” said Greg Greeley, Vice President, Amazon Prime.

Greeley went on to say the success of Prime Day 2016 has encouraged the company to repeat the round of sales next year.

Amazon broke down some of the sales done on Prime Day. Here a few of the highlights:

  • More than 90,000 TVs purchased
  • Hundreds of thousands of Kindle e-readers sold
  • Biggest day ever for Amazon Echo
  • 200,000 headphones purchased

In addition to electronics, Amazon revealed movies, books, and audiobooks were popular items among buyers. You can see a full breakdown of sales at the source link below.
