The Gear S2 is already a great smartwatch, but it’s about to get even better. Samsung is apparently working on a major software update for the device, and a huge batch of leaked screenshots from SamMobile reveals some exciting features and improvements.
The biggest change is likely the new custom watch faces. Once the Gear S2 update hits you should be able to use your own photos. It looks like you’ll be able to pick up to 10 at a time and then quickly swipe through them to match your mood throughout the day.
Another huge improvement is the ability to download apps straight from the Gear S2. That means you won’t need a synced smartphone to add more apps, making it a lot easier to try new software on the go.
Samsung’s also set to improve a few of its stock smartwatch apps. The Weather app will now show UV levels so you know when to wear sunscreen. The World Clock app now shows sunrise and sunset info, and the color of the clock will change to white during the day and black at night.
The update may introduce a few other features not included in these leaked screenshots, including new voice commands. We still don’t know when the rumored software will actually arrive, but it should be within the next few weeks, so stay tuned.
