Oculus sets Connect 3 conference for Oct. 5, teases Oculus Touch release

Oculus has officially set the date for its annual developer conference, which kicks off on October 5 in San Jose, California. Connect 3 should be the company’s biggest conference so far, with some exciting keynotes and new details on the long-promised Oculus Touch controllers.

This year’s event will feature Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe, Chief Technology Officer John Carmack, and chief scientist Michael Abrash. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a surprise appearance last year at Connect 2, so there’s no telling who else might show up for Connect 3.

The conference is mostly meant for developers, but we should get a look at some of the new games coming to the Oculus Rift, too. The company also notes that it’s on track to launch Oculus Touch later this year, promising more information at the event.

Oculus also took the opportunity to officially apologize for the delays that plagued Rift pre-orders. The company says it’s finally shipped all pre-orders, and that new purchases should go out within two to four business days.

The VR headset is heading to even more in-store demo stations as well. Oculus is setting up shop at select Microsoft stores this month, and it should be in over 500 Best Buy locations across the country this fall. So if you’re still not sold on the Rift you can try it out for free first.
