Swipe right? Swipe left? Nah. Walk four blocks just to catch that Eevee that you have four duplicates of? Yes, of course. Pokémon GO makes a player do strange things, but folks are logging tons of time in the app.
SimilarWeb did some interesting data comparisons that pits Pokémon GO against other applications on the Android platform. They found that users are putting more time into Pokémon GO than into apps like WhatsApp, Snapchat and Twitter. They even found that Pokémon GO has a larger install base than Tinder. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company’s newest game has been installed on more than 5% of all Android phones since its release last week.
I thought maybe its constant presence amongst my neighbors and those walking around my city was anecdotal. I didn’t want to say it was huge with only those around me as evidence.
A 5% install rate on Android devices alone in less than a week, though? Yes, Pokémon GO is massive. Nintendo’s even seeing that translate into stock value.
That’s nuts. Are you playing Pokémon GO?
