Metroid fans looking for the next great game in the series don’t need to turn their eyes to Nintendo this time. The Metroid II: Return of Samus fan-remake, Project AM2R, will be releasing next month on Aug 6.
Of course, it will be free since Nintendo has no official connection to this game in the least.
AM2R has been in the works for many, many years, and it has always been seen as a way to modernize Metroid II: Return of Samus. While I played the original earlier this year and had a blast, many see it as the Metroid game that has aged the most thanks to its black-and-white graphics and lack of a map. This fan remake looks to overhaul its story and ideas with a face-lift similar to Metroid: Zero Mission on the Game Boy Advance.
AM2R’s website has the countdown ticking down right now, and the final product will be available on Aug. 6. If you are jonesin’ for some Samus, this is your best bet until Retro Studios gets around to confirming a new Metroid Prime game.
