Overwatch: Did you catch the new sniper support class Blizzard teased?

While I was off being a dad at the end of my work day, Blizzard was tweeting about what we assume will be the next hero. Her name is likely Sombra, and, based on rumblings and this new tweet, she’s going to offer a sniping take on the support class.

Here’s the tweet from Blizzard.

The theory goes that Sombra is actually Pharah’s mother, as she’s been referenced multiple times through in-game dialogue. Based on the imagery above, fans think that Sombra will offer a unique sniper/support role. Her rifle will deal damage at a distance, but fans suggest that she’ll also be able to fire off an area-of-effect heal in the form of a grenade or, perhaps, drop tech like what Soldier 76 offers.

What lends credence to this new hero being Pharah’s mother? Well, Blizzard of Brazil does. That arm of the company fired off the same tweet, but if you look at the top of the imagery, another name is addressed. “A. Amari.” Pharah’s real name is Fareeha Amari, and her mother’s name is Ana Amari. Ana Amari was one of the original Overwatch founders, but her current fate remains unknown.

Whatever the case may be, I love the idea of another damage-dealing healer. I think I have at least 25 hours put into Mercy, Lucio and Zenyatta, and I could really use another support class that’s capable of hitting the other team hard as well.

Stay tuned for more.
