Audible bets on original audio content with new Channels service

Audible is already synonymous with audiobooks. Now the Amazon-owned company is pushing into original content with a new service called Channels that offers a wide variety of short-form audio.

Channels main draw is a mix of podcast-style series ranging from comedy to investigatory journalism to talk shows. It also features audio recordings of articles from leading national newspapers, along with specialized playlists built around specific topics. The new service costs $5 per month, but it’s included for free in Audible’s regular $15 monthly subscription.

Audible is offering a handful of interesting audio programs at launch. That includes Moral City, which features interviews with random people on the fringe of urban life, and a funny historical series called Presidents Are People Too! The company is also working on a series called Damned Spot, which focuses on retail properties gone bad and features some explicit language.

Channels is available starting today in the Audible app. You can grab the update now via the source links below.
