Just sit back and take it all in. World of Final Fantasy looks like the happiest game on Earth, especially if you’re a Final Fantasy fan. These screenshots show off a whole batch of new characters, and some of them are long overdue for representation in these kinds of throwback games.
Taking center-stage is none other than Celes, the traitorous general from Final Fantasy VI. Typically, Terra is granted the best real estate from Final Fantasy VI, so it’s nice that her blonde companion is being given a chance to finally shine. The playboy king Edgar also shows up to represent Final Fantasy VI in charming fashion.
Another character that I didn’t recognize from the E3 2016 trailer is Shelke Rui from Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus. I wish I could tell you more, but Dirge of Cerberus has never been one to keep my interest long enough to find out more about her.
Tidus, on the other hand, is a character I know a lot about. He’s one of my favorite Final Fantasy leading protagonists, and he pops up here with a Blitzball for his summon attack.
Other screenshots show off the airships and a few settings. They’re fine and all, but I just can’t get over these chibi-character models, especially the under-represented Final Fantasy VI ones. They are amazing, and I just want to hug each and every one of them.
World of Final Fantasy launches on Oct. 25 for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.
