Samsung’s Smart Glow leaks, the notification game has changed

Samsung is reportedly working on a new hardware notification system dubbed “Smart Glow” that will make its debut in the Galaxy J2 sometime later this year and, possibly, in the Galaxy S8 next year. News of the “Smart Glow” system was first reported by SamMobile.

According to SamMobile, Smart Glow will serve as a “glowing ring around the rear camera lens” that can be used to alert the user to different notifications. It might glow one color for a specific contact, for example, similar to the glowing Edge feature on some of Samsung’s other smartphone. It could also blink a specific color for other reasons, such as red or orange for a low battery indicator. SamMobile said it might be used for high-res selfies, and that it will “light up blue when [a] face is detected” by the rear camera, so you know when you’re in frame and ready to take a shot.

SamMobile noted two additional Smart Glow features called Health ring and Weather ring. Weather would light the Smart Glow system up to let you know about specific conditions whenever you shake the phone. “Sunny weather will be, for example, represented by a yellow glow, while rain results in a blue hue,” SamMobile said. Sounds a lot more accurate than looking out the window. SamMobile wasn’t clear on how the Health ring will work.
