Red OnePlus 3 rumors shot down by the company

Yesterday a leaked image of the OnePlus 3 with a cool red design sparked rumors that the device could be getting a new color variant. Unfortunately, it turns out the rumors were wrong. OnePlus reached out to us directly to confirm that the new phone will only be available in the two promised color options.

OnePlus is currently selling the new phone in a graphite silver hue. The company’s also confirmed plans to launch a soft gold version in July for the same $399 price. But that seems to be it, not counting the various cases available for the OnePlus 3 from the company. A spokesperson for the company reached out to confirm “there will be only 2 color variants of the OnePlus 3: Graphite and Soft Gold.” Well that seems pretty finite.

Even without a red color option the OnePlus 3 is still a great smartphone. It packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, a 3000mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. That’s flagship-level hardware for about half the price of a typical flagship phone like the Galaxy S7.

You can order the OnePlus 3 directly from the company right now or wait until next month for the gold version. But we wouldn’t bother waiting around for a red variant that’s clearly not coming.
