A few months back, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo NX, along with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, would release in March 2017.
There was some question about the stability of that launch month. Was it a window? The mark of the new fiscal year? March was marked on calendars pensively for Nintendo fans.
Now, Nintendo has firmed up that March 2017 launch date by reasserting it. The word came during a recent shareholders’ meeting. The company reconfirmed the NX launch date and offered that gaming will continue to be the core of their business practices.
Interestingly, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto spoke ever-so-briefly about virtual reality. They’re looking at it, but it seems that the fact that games are played in short stints is giving them pause. Here’s what he said.
I heard VR was a hot topic at E3, so I went to check it out. It was on display, but it wasn’t what I expected. We’re also researching VR, so we have the core technology. Long play sessions are an issue. We want to release something that can be played for long periods, carries value, and is affordable. We want parents to feel at ease.
Could Nintendo get into VR down the line? Probably not with the NX, but it’s interesting that they’re considering it.
We’ll have more on the Nintendo NX as it comes.
