The season 6 finale of Game of Thrones dropped a bombshell that’ll be talked about all throughout the summer, but there was still one detail that remained unconfirmed. Thanks to an inforgraphic released by HBO, however, we now have 100 percent confirmation of who Jon Snow’s dad is.

There are spoilers ahead.

During the pivotal scene at the Tower of Joy, Lyanna Stark’s dying words are overheard by Bran, who travels back in time in a weirwood vision. Unfortunately, HBO purposely muffled some of what she said so as to conceal who Jon Snow’s real dad is; we know it sure as hell isn’t Ned Stark, Lyanna’s brother, so who is it?

If you subscribed to that famous R+L=J theory you were right all along. Not only is Lyanna Jon’s mother but Rhaegar Targaryen, the brother of Daenerys Targaryen, is his father. The confirmation means Jon is indeed the living incarnation of fire and ice, the title of George R.R. Martin’s book series.

It was always assumed that Rhaegar would be Jon’s father but now we have irrefutable evidence straight from HBO. Now, the only question is, why did HBO try and obscure the name of Jon Snow’s real father during the episode only to come out and reveal it in a text? We don’t know but we’ll likely find out when season 7 airs next year.

We only have, at most, 15 more episodes of Game of Thrones, and you can bet the Jon Snow’s parentage will play a big part on it all plays out.
