Overwatch: Törbjorn is getting nerfed on consoles only

Törbjorn’s turrets are set to get nerfed on consoles, and they’ll deal 30% less damage than they do now.

The word comes from Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan in a thread on Reddit. The poster offered that “Torbjorn is utterly ruining this game on PS4,” and Kaplan responded with word of the nerf and its release timing.

In an upcoming patch, we will reduce the damage done by Torbjörn’s turret by 30% on Xbox One and PS4. PC will remain unchanged.

ETA – Mid to late July depending on 1st party certification times.

Why? It’s an issue of accuracy. Törbjorn’s turret instantly snaps to targets, including Tracer with her blink ability. Consoles, compared to the PC platform, tout less precise controls. While it’s easy to twitch respond to that instant aiming turret on the PC, the same can’t be said for consoles. It aims so much better and more efficiently than most players can adjust to, and that makes dealing with multiple turrets on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One a nightmare.

The poster also brings up the fact that console players can’t type to communicate and no one uses a mic, thus making strategizing nearly impossible. This could be true, but I can attest to the fact that folks on PC don’t strategize much, either. Chat seems more like a place where people yell about needing a healer or having too many snipers.

Blizzard’s made the right move here, as far as I’m concerned. I play Overwatch on the PC, and I have no issues with how Törbjorn feels as an opponent. I could see getting frustrated quickly with the console experience, though.

Do you play on console? How’s dealing with Törbjorn?
