YouTube has more content creators than any other video site, but, oddly, it has been sitting on the sidelines of the incredibly hot mobile live streaming market. That changes today, with a new live streaming mobile product from YouTube that will roll out slowly.
First, keep in mind that YouTube has been offering live videos for years. The only difference between its product and Facebook Live or Periscope is that users couldn’t broadcast live from their smartphones; at least not as efficiently or easily as competing products. Now they’ll be able to do so with a click of a button, allowing subscribers to tune in right away.
“You won’t need to open anything else, just hit the big red capture button right there in the corner, take or select a photo to use as a thumbnail, and you can broadcast live to your fans and chat in near real time.” YouTube said live streaming will soon be featured inside of the YouTube mobile app. It also promises the experience will be “faster and more reliable than anything else out there.” Beware, Facebook and Periscope.
YouTube mobile live streaming is only launching for a few select partners now, but it will be “rolling out more widely soon.”
