Fight clubs, unorthodox gifts, and method acting, these are just a few of the things that happened on the set of Suicide Squad. You’ve probably heard a tall tale by now about how hectic it was on the movie’s set, but it’s hard to fathom how it was for the movie’s actors. Well, according to Viola Davis, who plays Amanda Waller, it got so intense she almost pepper sprayed Jared Leto.
In an interview with E!, Davis talked about how completely insane everyone was because “all the characters are insane.” When you’re constantly around actors playing these really intense roles, it can get to be a bit much. So when Jared Leto kept sending out weird gifts to other cast members, that was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Davis.
“It was a little worrisome,” Davis explained. “It made you a little bit nervous and I’m pretty tough. You know I got into a few fight when I was growing up… but it scared me a little bit.”
You might be thinking to yourself, “It can’t be that bad.” Well, when a fellow actor is sending you bullets, that’s when you start to worry.
“I was only introduced to The Joker [on set]… and I almost had my pepper spray out,” Davis said. “You know, ‘You remember that bullet you sent me?’”
Davis went on to explain that filming on the set got so crazy that it gave her heart palpitations, which doesn’t sound like the healthiest working environment. Based on the trailers we’ve seen, Suicide Squad looks suitably insane, but we didn’t expect things to be that crazy. Suicide Squad hits theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
