Gear 360 launches in U.S. today, but chances are you won’t find it

Samsung announced Wednesday that its 360-degree camera, the Gear 360, officially launches in the U.S. today. That’s being generous, though, since the gadget will only be on sale in a very limited fashion at VidCon, where customers can buy it for $349.99.

For whatever reason, Samsung said that the Gear 360 won’t be broadly available in the U.S. until later this year, when it will begin to offer more details on it. That’s kind of a bummer, though, because all early signs point to a really compelling gadget capable of recording 360-degree video for all sorts of purposes, from Facebook to virtual reality headsets. We had a chance to check it out in person way back during Mobile World Congress in February and were impressed with the orb-like design.

The few people around Anaheim, CA, today can go grab one from Samsung while it’s available. We’ll let you know when it launches for the rest of us.
