When the first teaser for Pete’s Dragon dropped, it looked like another boring reimagining of an old, beloved property. But after seeing the latest trailer, my tune has completely changed. Not only does Pete’s Dragon look thoughtful and fun, but it looks much, much better than the original (which honestly didn’t set a very high bar).
The trailer lays out the movie’s premise pretty well. A young boy named Pete (Oakes Fegley) is found alone in the woods and claims to live with a giant green dragon named Elliott. Of course, Elliott’s presence causes a big stir in the local community, so it becomes a question of whether the dragon should be killed or simply accepted.
Obviously, the location the movie was shot in plays a large part of the movie, showing just how beautiful the pacific northwest can be. I wasn’t very excited for Pete’s Dragon after seeing the movie’s first teaser, but now it’s very much on my list of must-see movies this year.
Pete’s Dragon hits theaters on Aug. 12, 2016.
