Apple’s latest smartwatch update, watchOS 3, is officially launching this fall. The free software upgrade brings some big changes to the wearable device.

The biggest improvement is instant app load times. Apple says apps will now load seven times faster than before. In a quick demo the app loaded almost instantly, which should mean a significantly better user experience.

Apple also tweaked the Watch’s side button functionality. Tapping it now launches a dock of your regularly used apps instead of the old communication screen. If you hold down the same button you’ll launch an SOS feature that calls 911, notified your contacts and then displays your emergency information onscreen.

There’s a ton more, including new activity and fitness features and lots of APIs. We’ll have more coverage later today and then this fall when it officially rolls out.
