Steep is Ubisoft’s new open world extreme sports game

As part of their E3 conference today, Ubisoft announced their newest IP, Steep.

Steep is an open-world extreme sports game. The game takes place at least partly in the Swiss Alps, and you’ll be able to drop into any of the mountains in the range at various entry points to ski, snowboard, paraglide, or make your way down in a wingsuit.

The game, like much of Ubisoft’s other library in recent years, can be played online, with you and your friends choosing different routes down the same mountain. Afterward, you can watch replays of the trek down the mountain, creating videos and photos from the run or challenge your friends to make the same run.

It looks like the game feature some pretty heavy character customization as well, letting you look like a yeti, clown, or whatever else as you roll through the snow.

While winter sports aren’t something I typically follow, I’ve long loved games like EA’s SSX, and I’m eager to see Ubisoft do something that isn’t about shooting or stabbing stuff. The game hits major platforms this winter.
